Why do you still use XP?

Anyways, I'm not even old yet, and I'll never be able to tell the difference between 1k and 4k video. Maybe on a Jumbotron screen at a sports stadium, but I don't go to those either. 10-bit color depth is merely a filesize efficiency gain over 8-bit, in exchange for a higher multitude of processing requirements.

Actually, you can tell. I'm using a 720p wall projector and my eyes can see the glaring difference between 1080p and 4K (both downscaled to 720p by the projector). Way to describe it, 1080p videos look like lossy JPEG compressed pictures, whereas 4K is closer to the lossless PNG picture format.

Oh, I bet I could see it too, with a wall projector! I hadn't even thought about those.
I hear you, about the difference between JPG and PNG, as I usually save screenshots in PNG. I still wonder if it's a matter of lower compression on 4K source vs 1080p source. Even OTA and cable companies use significant compression... maybe BluRay is the highest source quality available?

Simply increase viewing distance.

  1. Old PC.
  2. In most cases video games shows higher FPS than in Windows 7 or Windows 10.
  3. Older video games that works without problems in Windows XP.
  4. EAX & A3D sound in video games.
  5. Windows XP has better GUI than Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  6. GUI in Windows XP works faster than in never versions of Windows.
  7. From time to time I am writing some programs & I want to be sure that they are fully compatible with Windows XP.

This is true. Unreal Tournament GOTY ('99) has more than twice the fps on XP than Win7. BUT XP is not without its disadvantages:

1. Nintendo emulators like Project64 don't display the correct aspect ratio in XP, only in Win7.

2. Certain XP-era games are actually buggy on XP. One of my favorite games is Sacrifice by Shiny/Interplay released in 2000. This game's audio does not work properly in XP. Have to go on Win7 to tame the volume.

On XP I have used NES emulators Fce Ultra (my 1st preference), Jnes, Nestcl95, Nester, and RockNesx... haven't had a display problem with any of them.

Those are 2-D emulators. When requiring to invoke Direct3D for 3D N64 games, Project64 simply does NOT display the correct aspect ratio in WinXP in full screen mode.

I tried MX-23.1 x-64.
Took 15-20 min to change rez (from highest possible) to 16-9,as in 1600-900, not possible! One 16-9 choice,1920x1080. (as installed, rez was set as the highest possible rez with ACER monitor ) To get something I could see & read. Another 10-15 minutes to figure out how to change mouse to Left Handed. Has this HUGE 'day/date/time I dont like, have NOT figured that one, yet. etc. etc. etc.

edit:
I have deepin desktop(?), I wont spend too much more time with mx-23 before tryin' deepin, , ,

It looks like just today MX Linux 23.2 was released so perhaps it will be better but I'm still wondering why i can not access my hard drive files using it. Sorry, trying to remember, it was saying something along the lines ... need authentication or something and I didn't have permission. Other then that, it was nice looking and I got online with no trouble.

I tried q4os. It looks pretty nice, but its not enough lightweight to my needs (VM).
So I tried AntiX linux and bingo. While it does NOT look like Win9x, I dont mind. I actually
prefer my Linux system to look a bit differently compared to my Win2003 box.
AntiX with IceWM absolutly fly. Its most lightweight usable distro I found.
