Detail, The Sistine Madonna, also known as the Madonna of Dresden, Raphael, ca. 1513, Old Masters Picture Gallery, State Art Collections, Dresden

Raphael's Sistine Madonna is a paradoxical masterpiece. Indeed, it is known for one detail, two dreamy cherubs that have made it one of the most reproduced works in the history of art. These two childlike figures, adorning scarves as well as eyeglass cases, mask by their aura the very subject of the painting, The Virgin presenting the Child....

Ezekiel
wp6cb95412_05_06.jpg

EZECHIEL

Ezekiel is depicted as a dynamic and vehement old man addressing a young man on his left

In a mixture of anger and questioning, he turns to the left, a scroll clutched in his hand

He breaks with the tradition of solidarity in punishment and affirms the principle of individual retribution

He breaks with the idea that God is bound to his sanctuary

Ezekiel's doctrine focuses on inner renewal: God himself will give another heart, a new heart

"I will pour clean water on you and you will be cleansed; from all your filthiness I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, I will put a new spirit within you; I will take away the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. "

Isaiah

Detail, Isaiah the prophet

The prophet Isaiah, treated in the spirit of a classical virile beauty, seems inhabited by doubt. He has interrupted his reading and keeps his finger between the pages of the Great Book. He seems to listen, worried, to the words of a small helper full of life that one guesses in a state of excitement.

The prophet Isaiah was born around 765 BC

In 740, he received his vocation in the Temple of Jerusalem: the mission to announce the ruin of Israel and Judah as a punishment for the infidelities of the people

He exercised his ministry for 40 years, which were dominated by the growing threat that Assyria posed to Israel and Judah

"Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and think they are clever!"

"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light ... for unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given"

I've decided to watch your recommendations above as I need to ground myself as the last few days have been a bit rough if I'm being honest. I'm ok and about to call it a night and power-off.

See ya in the AM and thank you @msfntor ... sorry I've been quiet lately, just, you know, happens to me and I'm sort of stuck in this weird 'head space'.

Take care,

Exercise is medicine for cancer and every dose counts - even in late stages of the disease
Even a single bout of exercise can produce anti-cancer proteins called myokines, which can significantly suppress tumour growth.

Professor Rob Newton.

It is well-known exercise has many benefits, but new Edith Cowan University (ECU) research has revealed just how critically important it can be – even for people with advanced cancer.

Previous work from ECU’s Exercise Medicine Research Institute has shown men with advanced prostate cancer can change the chemical environment of their body over six months of exercise training to suppress growth of cancer cells.

The team observed increased levels of proteins called ‘myokines’ which are produced by skeletal muscles and can suppress tumour growth and even help actively fight cancerous cells by stimulating a range of anti-cancer processes in the body.

But a new EMRI study has shown a single bout of exercise can elevate myokines even further and induce additional cancer suppression.

Importantly, this exercise induced medicine occurs in patients with incurable, advanced cancer where the disease has well and truly taken hold and patients have already received extensive treatment over many years.

Nine patients with late-stage prostate cancer performed 34 minutes of high intensity exercise on a stationary cycle, with blood serum collected immediately before and after, and then again 30 minutes post-workout.

The team found the serum obtained immediately after this “dose” of exercise contained elevated levels of anti-cancer myokines resulting in suppressed growth of prostate cancer cells in vitro by around 17 per cent.

Serum myokine levels and cancer suppression returned to baseline after 30 minutes.

EMRI researcher and study supervisor Professor Rob Newton said it was a breakthrough moment in exercise oncology.

“The findings from our work are particularly exciting because we report for the first time ever that men with advanced prostate cancer are able to produce an acute elevation in anti-cancer molecules called myokines in response to a single bout of vigorous exercise,” he said.....

LIVING ON THE EDGE

This is what you call being stuck between a rock and toothy place ... footage captured earlier this year in South Africa's MalaMala Game Reserve shows a trio of klipspringers staying firm on a large boulder while a pack of African painted dogs nip at the antelope from a tantalisingly close position on the top of the rock.
Klipspringers – a species of African antelope with a mountain goat-like ability to navigate steep precipices – are no easy target for predators. Their nimbleness over rocky terrain tests even the most accomplished and determined hunters. After cornering three klipspringers on the edge of a boulder the younger dogs in the pack tried desperately to reach the agile antelope. But the bucks stayed firm and the dogs eventually abandoned the hunt, instead moving on to more common prey: an impala.

BISON BRAWL

The sight of two American bison locked in a head-clashing battle for dominance is enough to stop just about any tourist in their tracks – especially when the skirmish takes places in the middle of a snow-covered road in the white haze of winter. In March this year, John Clark was travelling through Yellowstone National Park when he came across a pair of bison throwing down and stopped to film the brief brawl:

Bison bulls are polygynous, so they will mate with multiple females during the rut. The action usually kicks off in June or July when mature males start mingling in mixed-sex herds in search of mating opportunities. Much of the bulls' behaviour during the rut is just for show and actual, significant fights are rare, though they do occur if intimidation tactics fail. In the case of this snowy showdown, it's likely that the fight ended without serious injury.

Biometric devices sold on eBay reportedly contained sensitive US military data
'The irresponsible handling of this high-risk technology is unbelievable.' German researchers who purchased biometric capture devices on eBay found sensitive US military data stored on their memory cards, The New York Times has reported. That included fingerprints, iris scans, photographs, names and descriptions of the individuals, mostly from Iraq and Afghanistan. Many worked with the US army and could be targeted if the devices fell into the wrong hands, according to the report.

A group of researchers called the Chaos Computer Club, led by Matthias Marx, bought six of the devices on eBay, most for under $200. They were spurred by a 2021 report from The Intercept that the Taliban had seized similar US military biometric devices. As such, they wanted to see if they contained identifying data on people who assisted the US Military that could put them at risk.

They were "shocked" by the results, according to the report. On the memory card of one device, they found the names, nationalities, photographs, fingerprints and iris scans of 2,632 people. Other metadata showed it had been used near Kandahar, Afghanistan in the summer of 2012. Another device was used in Jordan in 2013 and contained the fingerprints and iris scans of a small group of US military personnel.

Such devices were used to identify insurgents, verify local and third-country nationals accessing US bases and link people to events, according to a 2011 guide to the devices. "It was disturbing that [the US military] didn’t even try to protect the data,” Marx told the NY Times. “They didn’t care about the risk, or they ignored the risk.

One device was purchased at a military auction, and the seller said they were not aware that it contained sensitive data. The sensitive information was stored on a memory card, so the US military could have eliminated the risk by simply removing or destroying the cards before selling them.

"Because we have not reviewed the information contained on the devices, the department is not able to confirm the authenticity of the alleged data or otherwise comment on it," Defense Department press secretary Brig. Gen. Patrick S. Ryder told the Times. "The department requests that any devices thought to contain personally identifiable information be returned for further analysis."

Given the sensitivity of the information, the group plans to delete any personally identifiable information found on the devices. Another researcher noted that any individuals found on such devices aren't safe even if they changed their identities, and should be given asylum by the US government. (by engadget)
