word processor program wanted

Any one know where i can get for free or buy for a small fee a word processing program that will run on XP?

Thanks

Well, There's a crap-ton... A couple years ago I spent some time collecting a bunch up... I guess you are looking for something with write/spreadsheet/etc... The legacy Ability Office Suites are free but no longer on their site, they work just as good as the new...

I have installed both Ability 2000 & the Ability 2002 & they both are pre-registered after install... the suite also has a nice image/paint editor that is PSD compatible (old PSD) with layers & such...

I also use Jarte, AbiWord, DJOPad, RuneText, DocPad, Vulcan Notes, Lamantines Cool Sheets & More>>>

Here's Tagana Word Processor with very stylized GUI, Freeware-

Here's the original Floppy Office which would all fit on a floppy-

Here's Gammadyne DocPad back when it was better... Free too-

I cant get any of those site to work!
I am getting an error message for all of them of

This site can’t provide a secure connection

web.archive.org sent an invalid response.

ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

I guess it's my fault for trying to help... For shit's sake dial down your security settings they are tighter than a startled sphincter... You have to be able to at least get a finger in there... Be bold, nothing in life is safe... 'The Meek shall inhert shit'...

All links work all are SAFE... the wayback machine is the safest place to grab from as well as archive.organism

On XP I'm still using with (almost) perfect satisfaction Office97 (that includes Word97) and Atlantis 4.3.5.3.

Though still a little convoluted, good old Word97 is way easier to handle than all its later versions (has much less pointless whistles and bells), and can be downloaded for free on Internet Archive.
Atlantis 4.3.5.3 (that's the portable, but allegedly all versions run on XP) looks very much like Word and can also output directly in .epub format. It's downloadable on the official site (lifelong license $35 but it probably runs even for free, at least for a while).
Good luck :)

Hi @Chiron :), about your Atlantis v4.3.5.3, Does it have "Install as portable" option when you install it?
And in Atlantis > Help > About, does it say "Portable copy" below the line "Copyright © Info-ZIP"?

Word97 I would like to go with or older
Is that the web site listed in Post 2? I have just tried it on my Tor Onion browser and still it dose not work!

**Edit** it is trying to download something of a .zip file. should I download it? Was expecting a web page with a hyper link button to press

Hi we3fan :)

No: to install that version as a portable you must first install it regularly, then in the "Tools" menu you find an option "Install to removable drive".

I don't know, so far I never used the 'portable' option. My "Atlantis > Help > About" looks like this:

I must admit that I'm quite happy with what I got for those measly $35 - doesn't happen every century, you know... :D

Right now it doesn't seem to work for me either: all I got in the last 10 min was a systematic "too many requests"

Take it easy, dealing with the Internet Archive takes plenty of patience: the download is usually pretty slow and most of the times you don't know if you're really downloading the right thing until you have it entirely on your HD (sloppy/cryptic/incomplete descriptions).
However for a start you may try here if you're looking for the English version or here should you prefer another language (not a really wide choice anyway).
And if you miss the bull's eye at the first shot, don't desist: the contents there change with impressive speed for an archive :)
Good luck!

P.S.: don't look for "Word97", look for "Office97". Word is just a part of it and isn't available separately - although you may install it separately laying aside the rest of the junk, thank goodness.

P.P.S.: what you'll download will be most likely a CD ISO image. To install it you'll need either a physical CD/DVD reader (nowadays a rarity) or some simple program that mounts an ISO image as a virtual drive. Write back if you need one.
