    sorry, could not help you, HP is notorious for power buttons going out. I have one also, I just threw it away, kept the harddrive though and wiped and use it as a spare drive.

    the poweer button works fine. the fans are whirring and the optical drive lights flash for a second, the hard drives makes a noise but nothing appears on screen.

    did you try a different monitor?
    or try the current monitor in a different pc?

    HI

    the monitor works fine in my laptop. the power indicator isnt showing up on the pc but the fans are whirring. i think its a motherboard issue or similar.

    I have gone as far as I can, if you could have gotten online it could have been scanned to see what the issue was, but it looks like you will have to take it to a computer repair shop. :(

    Sounds like the BIOS is unable to get past the POST sequence. The way to reset the BIOS on some computers is to shuffle the memory sticks around as most BIOS won't POST if there is a memory problem or missing memory. (ie. when a computer doesn't POST, all you see is a black screen when you turn it on). If there are additional empty slots for the memory stick(s), try placing at least one of them in those other slots.

    Don't forget to reset the CMOS too by removing the small circular lithium battery on the motherboard for half a minute before you restart the PC.
