Does IE 8 still supported by web browsing?

The PC (Toshiba Satellite 5205-S503 with XP Home Edition SP3(i got from a fellow member on here)) i have doesn't not work with WiFi at the moment but it does connect through LAN. However even though it can bring up search results it won't go into individual web pages? Is this a a browser issue? I also installed the updates for IE 8.

do not know what cypher blocked means but the link and the one above both work for me, :)

The Github website has some TLS/SSL incompatibilites on XP x64-IE8 and throws this infamous "cannot display the webpage" error.

go to start, all programs, it upper section on right side is a link to windows updates, click on this and if it asks to update to microsoft updates do that and then run a CUSTOM scan for updates, custom lets you choose which updates you want to install. and be aware that most updates have to be installed at shutdown and not at a restart.

Once i click on updates it goes though IE but since EI doesn't work then it's a dead end. Maybe Firefox can be used for the same process?

not through firefox that I am aware of

1. go to control panel/ internet options/security and reset all levels to default
2. go to services and ensure that automatic updates, cryptographic service and background intelligence service are all set to automatic
3. restart pc and then try the link in all programs again

Hey everyone. I've been very busy so i hadn't had the chance to participate in the forum for a while. But here i am...!!? o_O
Ok, anyway. What is an alternative to get thse updates going if the site is not working? Maybe buy a Cd with the updates already on it? Seems to easy though.

the updates are still available through the microsoft update catalog.

I fortunately had all the updates downloaded through using portup, a program that updates your pc offline, after loading all the updates online first.
a lengthy project.

I could upload all of them that I have to my onedrive, but this could take forever as my isp only has approx 4mbps upload capabilities. :)
How big are all the updates? If they'll fit on a CD or DVD, I don't mind sending you some blanks that you can send back to me loaded. Then I'll have a copy that I can write and send out to anyone that needs them or upload to wetransfer. :)

samir, you might try to download one of the unofficial service pack 4's and then extract the files.

or download portup and let it get the downloads for you, it will be particular to your pc as that is what it will search for, but then you can separate the uploads to the ones for everyone. my cache for portup is a couple of gb's large.

after it is installed, let it search your pc and then download the updates, this is what I did at the beginning, and now when I do a reinstall, I just update from portup without going online.
