Wifi connection Issue

    Hi all,
    'hope I have the right area.
    I'm trying to connect XP to the internet using a 54Mb wireless adaptor but XP refuses to recognise the adaptor. It works fine on Linux on the same computer and on XP on my brothers PC. I've tried re-installing the driver on the adaptor, admittedly using my brothers PC, but still unsuccessful. Are the drivers very NIC specific, if so how come it works with Linux ?
