XP won't hibernate or standby -AVG Tune up

This is a recent problem.Sometimes PC will not close down at all, and now won't do a Hibernate or Standby mode.Just stays on. I must confess that this is all part of problems with AVG Tuneup. When installed it seemd VERY keen to put EVERYTHING to sleep -Firefox would not open, Photosync.remained dead.Have had 2 sessions with AVG support lasting about an hour each (!) while they got my PC back to "normal", but still the shut-down problem. I dread having to go back to AVG yet again.Anyone else had AVG tune up problems and regret buying it? Can anyone hlp me on this? I am hanging on to XP for as long as possible!

How to perform checkdisk

if you do not have Recovery Console installed, then run from the start menu

go to start, run, type in cmd

in cmd type in chkdsk c: /r and press enter NOTE: space between k and c, also between : and /

type Y for yes and press enter

type exit and press enter

restart pc, allow checkdisk to finish and run again

this is a lengthy process depending on the size of your harddrive, the percentages will fluctuate, this is normal, you can view report in the event viewer.

go to start>run> and type in eventvwr.msc, click on the applications directory, and in the right hand panel choose winlogon.

sorry for the late reply, I check the forum often but I did not catch your post, :)

Hi All,
Greets,
Sir(s),
"Anyone else had AVG tune up problems ?"
@Brian Astell : Sir,
1. Yes it's problematic like many other so called Auto Tune Up/ Optimizer Softwares. The worst part of them is Registry Cleaning,Repairing &Optimization. Microsoft also offered Registry changers but discontinued long back !
2. Didn't you make a system image of the stable system ?

Thanks & Regards. ...

Hi Brian Astell,
Greets,
Sir, Did you try reinstallation of Chipset , then Storage & then Graphic drivers ? It solved my problems once with " no stand by & no hibernate " !

Thanks & Regards. ...
