Xp os

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a pc tower on ebay.

All the towers that I am looking at have XP as the OS.

If I buy a tower with XP installed will I have difficulty obtained say a Lexmark printer driver, or any other software.

I ask this question because XP is dated.

Thanks

Anon_private, there are more printer drivers for XP than most other OS's.
go to the lexmark site and check for the drivers for your printer model for XP.

Thank yo for responding.

I know little of XP, other than the fact that it is an older OS.

Are there any disadvantages to having XP installed as the OS?

Best wishes.

if you are going to buy a new pc go with win 7 as xp will not be supported after april 2014/

you will still be able to use xp, but you will get no more security updates.

Thank you for responding.

I will be buying an older tower. It seems that on ebay most towers of this age have XP installed.

I assume that providing I keep an antivirus/malware/spyware application up to date I will be able to use XP beyond 2014 without difficulty.

I hope that there will be plenty of applications/utilities available, including upgrades or new editions compatible with XP.

Best wishes.

Just be careful what you buy because if you do not get a valid license, you could never reinstall your os in case something goes wrong with your system. :)

If I buy a tower on ebay, I am not sure if I will get any disks, probably not.

However, should something go wrong and I need to reinstall, I have a Vista disk, although I am not sure if it will install to another computer.

In the final analysis, I could always install one of the many free Linux Os's, for example UBUNTU.

So,I do have options.

Best wishes.

Ps. If I did not get any disks from the ebay deal. I suppose I could back up the OS, and anything else, and reinstall if necessary. I assume that this would work, but not sure.

that would be best, the best program is Acronis True image and it is not free, but will clone the disk and do incremental updates so that if something happens you can reinstall the clone and be about your merry way. :)

just backing up will not back up a system or programs, Acronis will do both.

If I buy the tower I will look for a free programme that will clone the disk. I am sure that there are many on the Net.

Best wishes.
