Xp laptop/How to back up before restore to original format

If any one could let me know how to be sure everything I need to have backed up is backed up( ESP - pics and videos) I would greatly appreciate it. Not sure of the model( can check when I get home). Bought it 2005 ithink. Anyway I'm not so good at computers and am afraid I will loose valuable pics and videos that could be hidden somewhere. Is there anyway to be absolutely sure there are no pics /videos hidden anywhere ?

First insure that you have hidden files to be unhidden:

search.jpg


in the search box type .jpg and then hit search.

then you will do a search of your pc for .jpg or .bmp or whatever the extension of your pictures are, the following links explain some of these extensions:
