Does anyone have experience running XP on a TB HDD? Can XP handle a big HDD like that without problems?
I have XP installed on one such HDD, and I get a lot of BSOD. Formerly, my XP OS was installed on an 80GB HDD, with no probs; that HDD died, and I bought a 1TB HDD, and that's when the problem started.
It was a clean install (XP SP3 slipstreamed) from disc, and that particular copy of the OS runs on other 'puters with no problems.
Any ideas would be worth looking at, at this point - it's become a real headache.....

I think you have to partition a large drive for xp, I will check but I think it is 135gb or so is the max to install with xp.

I used to have 1 TB of HDD as C partition without any issues. As to the bsod, never had one, but I just did a clonedisk and then I resized the partition.

The 1TB HDD is partitioned to 10GB for the OS, 19GB for the operating programs, and the remainder is the third partition. I do this with every HDD I use, or have ever used. And I do that for anti-malware protection.

Hold wait a minute. If there is an AF (Advanced Format) label on the HDD, then you can't use XP to partition it unless you re-align it later with the software provided by the HDD manufacturer. Only Win7+ can properly partition an AF HDD w/o needing manuf's aligning software. However you can do as you like afterwards including installing XP on it...

Technically speaking, AF HDDs are only supported in Win7 and later. But the backdoor to use it with XP is to install Win7 on it first, or use aligning software...

That's very good info; thank you. I will have to strip the machine to get at the HDD to have a look for that label; if that label is affixed, I will, at least, have an avenue of resetting the HDD. Thank you, again.....

No need to open the PC to have a look. Look up the HDD Serial No (aka model number) in Device Manager. Then check online to see if that particular model is Advanced Format on the manufacturer's web site/specs sheet...

You're getting to be expensive - I owe you more thanks than I can express. Something else I hadn't thought of, and a simple "Thank You" just doesn't seem enough to give in return. But.... "THANK YOU!!!"
