Freeware from 1999 is XaraCube which later became a commercial product with improved features... You can put either a BMP image or a AVI video on the face of every cube... ONE cube will always have XARA branding on ONE face... You can have a number of cubes & they can be sized but if your cubes start getting too big there will be pixelation... I find it best to make any video or BMP 200x200 square if it's not square there will be the white cube showing in that spot taking away from the experience... The image below is just 11 screenshots of the screensaver turned into a GIF... The screensaver is quite fluid... You may have to copy 2 files from the install dir to system32 as my installer did not do that... Included RTF has more info...

It runs my average white band GIF like above note that on every cube face if assigning same video they all fire off at the same time, in this case it worked out well with all colors flashing off in unison as cubes tumble about... For many other videos you're gonna wanna cut different bits of them to mount up...
