    Hi
Has anyone been using WPS Kingsoft office on XP?

The package updated to the 2016 version(10.1.0.5656) and despite a number of uninstalls and re-installes fails to work.

I have been on to Kingsoft to try and grt to the bottom of the problem, but I am wondering if this new version just is not 'XP friendly'.

I have included a fault report on the last attempt.

Has anyone had the same problems with this version?

I ran the Kingsoft Office 2012 version because it was most similar in looks and operation to Microsoft Office 2003. I have since switched to a free version of Ashampoo Office 2010 (from Softmaker). It is docx/xlsx compatible and has a PDF maker.

    Hi,

I have, like you, installed and uninstalled WPS Kingsoft Office under Windows XP, 7, 8.1 and 10.

While I have not seen this error message I gave up on WPS, Kingsoft, call it what one wishes. I call it, "broken".

From Kingsoft Office 2012 up to WPS Office 2016 there is a really annoying "feature" I was not happy with. Kingsoft/WPS has a templates/additional features module which communicates with a server somewhere in the Kingsoft/WPS organisation/servers which means that when using Kingsoft/WPS it is "tied" to a server somewhere in China whether I, or anyone likes it or not. Even selecting the option to start using Kingsoft/WPS (the word processor module) with a blank document Kingsoft/WPS is still "live" and linked to a server somewhere "just in case" the user might want a new template or somesuch.

After a day or so of use, Kingsoft/WPS starts to "chuck a wobbly" and then it usually crashes.

Another thing that Kingsoft/WPS won't do is load/read/save in .odt format.

I gave up on an otherwise fast loading office suite (and Kingsoft/WPS certainly loads and runs very quickly) and keep going back to Apache OpenOffice. Now I use LibreOffice Ver 5 in 64 bit.

Looking at the text file dump it looks as though Kingsoft/WPS is looking for Australian English in the XP registry and for some reason will not read your language settings.

Nice try Kingsoft/WPS but "no cigar".

    Cheers,

    Mark.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for that, it looks like I am heading for Libre Office.

Let you know how it goes.

    Hi Mark,

Libre Office up and running looking good so far.

Don't seem to be able to fully un-install Kingsoft though, seems to have hooked itself into the system.

Any ideas how to purge it completely, the un-installer says its gone, but looking at the drive it hasn't. If I try and delete the remaining files it tells me I have not got permission to do that.

    Be glad to get rid.

    Cheers

    Michael

    Hello Michael,

Kingsoft/WPS does leave some traces in the registry after the standard uninstall.

Iobit Uninstaller (free) is excellent. I have seen Iobit Uninstaller clean up traces even after a standard uninstall of a program.

And, Ccleaner has a very good uninstaller built in to the Tools option.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

    Awww! No love for Ashampoo/Softmaker?

I dunno. To me OpenOffice is piss poor slow, although I'm glad it shedding its reliance upon Java.
