WMP will not connect for album info

Hello folks
When I try to get "Album Info" on a cd, WMP xp says it can not connect to net, thou I am connected.

I went out on web for an answer but everything was for systems 8 and up in the form of an answer.

Have no fear of the pig in avatar,,,,,,,he has had his rabies shots

the above thread has some solutions dealing with the settings in WMP

Go to (...)\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and enter hosts file by opening it in notepad.

Then check if you have the following line:


2.18.213.82 redir.metaservices.microsoft.com

If you have 0.0.0.0., then copy the file to your desktop, change the ip to what's above and then copy the file back to the original folder (make sure to delete .txt extension).

It worked a treat for me.

Microsoft has ended the "meta service" for all WMP versions as they are trying to kill 7, but it affected and other OSes. You cannot get new information about your song, video,etc but the old music saved before the shutdown will sho the information(that can probably outdated sometimes)

sorry, Jim, I guess they are, the first thread is from 2011 and the other is for win10, but might work on xp. I do not use WMP and the first thing I did when I did use it is delete all the album info and pictures, because I just wanted the music only,
