Having gotten my system up and running again with a fresh install, the only real problem I'm having is with Windows Updates, which is driving me absolutely crazy. I know everyone has a bugbear with WU, but I have some critical problems going on. I've tried several Microsoft Fix Its, various free repair programs, loads of tips and tricks found on different sites, to no avail.

Okay, have to have 5 posts to post links...

    ...and we're back!

Apparently the real problem is with the registry, the 'Reset Windows Update Components' Fix It doesn't work... I've being trying the "Let me fix it myself" steps, but have ran into problems with that - I can't rename the folders as *.bak, although apparently I'm no the only one:

    Cannot manually reset windows update.

I'd really appreciate any help... anyone else having similar problems?

I think you could be having a problem with BITS, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, if you select run and type in services.msc and hit enter and see if the BITS service is running.
