wikipedia on browsers

Note 1:

The main-line version of the browser no longer supports older hardware that is locked to Windows XP as an operating system,[23][24] but an official, specialized, Atom/WinXP and Atom/Linux-32 builds are offered to close that gap.[25]

well so much for pale moon, :)

Well, did not take long, so far the only one I kept was Pale Moon, do not know how long that will last, but below are my notes on these:

PaleMoon:

took a couple of minutes for the setup screen to open on my desktop

pages appear to load a bit faster? Might be because I do not have a long list of addons, :)

youtube videos played without stutter and or stopping BUT only after I had activated adobe flash, and chosen to allow and remember, could now play a long list on youtube without refreshing page constantly.

Adobe flash, added with install automatically.

so far so good, I mean it is based on firefox, :)

from desktop to homepage about 15 seconds

360 Total Security flagges as potential virus, I just clicked on Allow.

could not find cache folder so I can clear it offline, so I have to clear history each time before I close it.

Maxthon:

check advanced:

otherwise it will automatically make it your default and will create a quick launch icon

would not let me have yahoo as my home page

therefore uninstalled right away, no other testing

===========================================

Vivaldi:

check advanced for more detailed install instructions

first opening after install, told me my connection was insecure, so I clicked on back to safety and got a blank page, closed out and reopened, everything was fine???
after trying a few tabs and every now and then getting an insecure connection, I just uninstalled this

===========================================

SeaMonkey:

slow on you tube

cannot change homepage, uninstalled

no further testing

So if you go to the Pale Moon menu, choose "History" and then "Clear History", the list of items you want to remove will be checked (ie. cache, search history, browse history, cookies, etc...) will be removed when you press OK.

If you go to Edit -> Preferences, the screen to change the home page is in there. Done it a million times.
:)

SeaMonkey is a great browser. I'm surprised that YouTube would not play without Flash. I had Pale Moon using just the HTML5 player (it takes a second to detect that Flash is not present, but then works.). But I'm on Windows 8, so I wonder if that makes a difference.

I know that embedded videos on Twitter will NOT work on Windows XP, no matter what because a codec is missing in the OS.

well, I might reinstall seamonkey to test this out , since I want to be able to customize any browser. :)

as for history in pale moon, yes I can clear manually through the history, while pale moon is open, however this is not how I want to do it, with firefox, I have the cache2 folder in my start menu and I can click on it and select all to delete, this makes ccleaner when I run it go much faster as evidently window is much faster at deleting than ccleaner.

so I want to have a folder from pale moon in my start menu also so I can delete when I choose. :) I deleted several folders one at a time to see if the history was gone when I opened pale moon, but did not find which folder it was. :(

Well, under Documents and Settings\Elizabeth\Moonchild Productions is there a Pale Moon\Profiles\[something]\cache folder?

(I only use memory/RAM cache, and disable disk caching, so I don't have it)
:)

yes there is and I tried to delete this and several others in this folder to see if the history was gone when I opened pale moon, but the history was always there, :)

On CCleaner, you can select cookies to keep for log in and such...I never have any real issues with speed on CCleaner.
I have FF29 on this tower, 12.0 on the other here, 41.0 upstairs. I much prefer older FF versions..less "garbage" on screen.
I also kill by renaming all updaters, as I do NOT want my programs updated to something that won't work with XP.
Makes life easier.

The current build of Firefox does work on XP. I use it at work everyday. But yes, Australis, and now the reworked Otions and Add-Ons page are more mobile-like.

I personally like Australis, I don't see a problem with it myself, although a lot of people seem to. (also, post date is nice.)

When I say "confirmed", I have done so on paper. I have yet to download/trial any, as I have gone through so many browsers over the last few months, I'm a bit burned out. Will start test driving again next month. FYI: I have download links if any above prove elusive.
