    Hi,
I searched the forum but failed to find answer....I have a Dell laptop 1521 running WinXP. Upon inserting usb flash drive or sd card, the computer "dings". The drive (I have several and it makes no difference which is used) does not show up in "My computer". It will show up in "device manager" and also in "computer management". In "computer management", I can actually access the drive, transfer files etc.

I just cannot get the drives to show up in "my computer", and it is aggravating to have to process computer management each time.

Any ideas how to correct? The same thing happens no matter which of the 4 on board usb ports are used, and no matter which flash drive is used. A drive letter is assigned (visible in computer management), but not viewable in "my computer". Also, no "autoview". Thank you...

    read the above,

right click on the drive and see if you have permission to access this drive.

does it show in safe mode?

    1. ensure your system is clean:

Download, install, update and do full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

Remove all found, reboot, and run again until scans run clean, these can be removed afterwards if you so choose. Run scans one at a time, please.

    2. what is your current antivirus?

    3. service pack?

    4. 32 or 64 bit?

    5. xp pro, home, or media center edition?
