Trying to get a 3.5in ide ssd. Preferably one of those that stick into the motherboard.

Is the adapter for the IDE connection or to hold the 2.5 inch drive in the 3.5 inch bay?

IDE. I’m using a msata to 2.5 ide with a 2.5 to 3.5 ide connection with power
Get something like the form factor adapter in the link I gave you. It won't have any interface between the drive and motherboard.
