Themes refusing to change! Help plz

so every time I start up my laptop I'm thrown into a guessing game of which theme will load, sometimes it's in the XP theme, or it's in classic grey. Either way i am unable to change which theme I get to use, I haven't received error messages when switching between XP, and classic, it just remains in whichever theme it was upon start up, basically it shows that I'm using my choice of theme in "Display Properties", but no matter what theme I choose it is always appearing as either XP or Classic.

are there any errors listed in event viewer??

go to start/run and type in eventvwr.msc the sections you are most interested in are applications and system, check for the time at one of your reboots.

also, what is your current antivirus??

do you have any other scanners installed??

I don't see anything relating to themes, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for, I'm currently using AVG, I want to use XP theme, and lastly I'm using XP pro

In event viewer you only want to look at a listing if it is an error, if it is just info do not worry

an error will be red with an x in it

a warning will be a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it.

if you double click on the entry a dialog box will open with further info

First, I am not sure if AVG is still supporting xp

see HERE

also avg is not considered one of the top antivirus even when xp was still supported, that said

I want you to download the following and run them, you can uninstall them later if you choose:

Download, install, update and do full scan with these free malware detection programs:

Malwarebytes Free (MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/

SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

Remove all found, reboot, and run again until scans run clean, these can be removed afterwards if you so choose. Run scans one at a time, please.
==============

when the scans are clean, NOTE: you may have to run each twice) and the issue is still occurring, then next I want you to create a new administrative account and then log into it and does the issue occur in the new account??

Sorry for not replying in so long, college has been a pain. Anyways I ran those anti malware like 12 times and am still getting malware hits, same ones over and over infact, also I tried the admin account thing no luck :/

can you post the log from malwarebytes??

so you created a new account and the same issue occurred in the new account, correct??

I created a new Admin account and tried changing themes and the theme did not change just like before.
