With the beloved Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Clamwin security progs dropping XP, I went back to SUPERAntiSpyware.
I also use SpyBot Classic 1.6.2 (And I have used v2.4, may dive into it again).
SUPERAntiSpyware does work in XP.
First The Caveats:
» SUPERAntiSpyware is "Buggy" in that it does not work well on individual files and folders (Context menu). Best is to do ta C:\ Scan for a single file. At least SUPERAntiSpyware is FAST!
» The last version to run on XP is v10.0.1254 (Download links below).
» SUPERAntiSpyware will run as an un-needed background service hogging resources.This can be avoided and I attach some tools for this SUPERANTISPYWARE xp forums.zip:

Start SuperAntiSpyware Service.bat
Stop SuperAntiSpyware Service.bat
2 Customized Start Menu shortcuts to the batch files:
01 Start SuperAntiSpyware Service
02 Stop SuperAntiSpyware Service

1] Install SUPERAntiSpyware v10.0.1254 (LAST XP). Let it install to C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware.
2] Place Start SuperAntiSpyware Service.bat and Stop SuperAntiSpyware Service.bat files in C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware
3] Place 01 Start SuperAntiSpyware Service and 02 Stop SuperAntiSpyware Service shortcuts in SUPERAntiSpyware Start menu folder
4] Go to system services -> SAS Core Service and change form Automatic to Manual.
5] Test your start/stop service shortcuts. Close Services.
6] msconfig -> startup -> uncheck SUPERAntiSpyware.
7] With SAS Core Service started, open SUPERAntiSpyware, say no to 14 day pro trial, Say no to pop-up saying product update available This pops up on every start unfortunately!
8] On SUPERAntiSpyware main menu -> "Click here to check for updates" and update
I also supply a start menu short cut to download latest definition updates which you can then apply without starting SAS Core Service.
9] I tend to do a custom scan of C:\ with all default settings.
