Slow after Clean Install

Hi
I am sure this must have been asked before but I don't see it.
I recently removed windows 7, formatted my hard drive and did a clean install of XP professional sp2.
When running windows 7 the system was very fast, now with XP, it is EXTREMELY slow.
Any ideas why? and how can I fix it?
I am not a computer buff, not very computer savvy at all about computers. I come from the slide rule era!
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

did you install all the drivers?

what is the make, model and model number of the pc, laptop or desktop??

have you ever performed a clean install before??

Laptop - HP - sorry, not near that computer at the moment (it is not connected to the internet)
and NO, never done a clean install - didn't know I was going to do one until I did - long story but it was a process of mistake after mistake.
Feel a bit foolish now, maybe getting older than I care to admit

hp pc's need a patch sometimes read below and also read a couple of the links on How to perform a clean install, get all the drivers for your pc downloaded to a flash drive, download sp3 to a flash drive and the patch if needed. I can help you with the drivers, but need the model and model number of your hp pc.

also, is it home or professional xp??

Before you install SP3 read this article…
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717
…and if your PC is an HP Pavilion, Presario or Media Center and has an AMD processor you need to install this patch before installing SP3…
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=pv-60484-2
…to find out if you have an AMD processor...
• Hold down the Windows key (between Ctrl and Alt) and hit the Pause Break key
• Your processor type is shown in the Computer: section
Then install SP3 by downloading and running from...
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=24
…you can ignore the text that says that it is for network installations and also ignore the text advising Windows/Microsoft Update if only updating one PC.
Reboot twice after installing.

ask any questions after reading the above :)

just realized that I copied all the drivers from windows onto my expansion drive before wiping the drive clean.
are they what I need and how can I reinstall them?
they are all in folders but there is nothing to install them, you know, an icon that says install or run or something
