Rough and Ready RAM Chip repair

    Hi,

    After two DDR RAM chips went "pfut" on m y old PC I was left with a whole 512 Mb RAM.

    I threw one "busted" chip away but kept the other.

    Tried the usual cleaning with iso-alcohol etc but "no go".

    Picked up a fairly rough way to repair a busted RAM chip from a site AND IT WORKED. !

    Warm water, washing up liquid, and an old toothbrush. Scrub the chip all over hard and keep on doing this for a while. Rinse the chip off in warm water, shake dry, dab with a tissue and put the chip out in the sun for a while.

    Power off the PC and pull the power cord. Put the RAM chip back in and start up.

    Yee Haaaaa. ! IT WORKED.

    I know it is a terrible way to treat any PC component but worth a try especially when 11 year old DDR RAM chips no longer exist.
