    Hello

I'm trying to recover an old XP install I corrupted several years ago. I dual boot Linux on this computer and I ran ClamAV which deleted a bunch of system files, so when I boot into Windows I get a lot of "Preparing to install..." prompts and various errors, for example it will autologin without asking me for password and then not load the desktop, I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del and run explorer.exe manually.

I tried running sfc /scannow and it seems to complete without error, but it doesn't change anything. I also booted from an XP SP2 install CD into the recovery console (press "R") but it won't recognize sfc as a command. Help?

when you deleted the system files, you most likely broke the system, I would suggest a complete wipe and reinstall.
