Hello. I am new to this forum.
I have an old Dell Dimension 5250 desktiop running Win XP Home Edition. It is functioning normally.
I have an even older Hard drive form my first computer. It is only 10GB, running Windows 95 at that time. It is a Dell XPS r450. I wish to connect it to the 5150 using an external drive enclosure by USB.
Will Win XP read this drive? I have read that XP can function in "emulation mode" for Win 98.
This is really only a personal training exercise to learn about computers, especially hardware.
I should mention that the 5150 is using an IDE hard drive. I could install this 10GB hd internally. This config would require this hd to be the "slave" to the DVD drive as "master". Would this be more feasible? I believe I would only have to select the proper pin position to designate this hd as the slave. Is this possible?
I like working with old components, since I cannot afford to buy new ones.
    Any input would be appreciated.
