Problem burning discs

    I am having a problem burning from media player,as it doesn't seem to detect a blank disc.
    The message insert media comes up this has only occurred recently as it has worked fine for years.I have tried various makes of discs incase I had a faulty pack or something but none seem to work. If I insert a pre-recorded disc it plays ok also ripping not a problem.
    The system I have is Home Edition Version 2002 service pack 3 the DVD/CD-ROM drive is
    HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-41648.
