Printer in use by another user

Trying to update printer drivers but system keeps advising that another user is using the printer. I am the only user. How do I prevent this problem ?

go to Folder Options, view tab, scroll down is Use simple file sharing box checked??

if so uncheck, does it clear the prob??

also if you use windows firewall, uncheck all the exceptions to the firewall.

what is make, model, and model number of the printer??

are you on a domain or a workgroup??

in task manager end process for any process dealing with your printer, if you are not sure then download process monitor , which is a more indepth version of task manager, in PM you can right click and choose to search online for any item you are not sure of:

above website, you can download the manual, and or the software, you might want to search for what area of the world you are in.

Thanks, but in Folder Options, View can't access Apply to All Folders, so presume therefore can't see the Simple File Sharing option.

I said nothing about applying to all folders, however to continue, did you end all processes dealing with the printer in task manager??

have you tried to update your printer in safe mode?? that means download the driver update, save to desktop, go to safe mode, and install there??
