In Windows XP is there an equivalent to the Resource Monitor in Windows 7?
It seems that I used a similar one in XP but cannot find it now.
The system is running extremely slow as if there is something going on in the background.
The cooling fan is running almost continuously when no programs are running - seems suspicious.
If there is a "Resource Monitor" or some such program, I would use it to troubleshoot.

You could look in the task manager, it gives you a diagnosis of how much memory is being used by each application.

Or do you mean something else?
