hewlett packard has pulled xp drivers off its website, so you will have to use a driver program to find xp drivers that you need

in order to have sound, video, internet ,etc. you have to supply drivers there are several programs, that will let you know what drivers you need and install them, slim utilities is one

surprisingly there are still xp drivers for this laptop, see link below which is for 32bit, but you can change it to 64bit if that is what you have, if you are not sure go to start/right click on My Computer/ choose properties/ on the general tab if you do not see 64 anywhere then you have 32bit pc.

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-compaq-dc7700-convertible-minitower-pc/3232028

install the chipset first, then video, audio , internet and then any others

The pc dose have the xp sticker on it. However the laptop has the Vista sticker on it no good!

Still think xp is one of the best os Windows did (2nd to 3.1)
But 3.1 dose not support usb so no good for me

I managed to download the files from the link you gave me thanks. Downloaded them onto my sd card on mobile device so will have to think of a way of transferring them

Should I copy and install the drivers to cd or usb flash drive?
And do I need to install a program onto the disk/ usb first to get the drivers to work?
    Thanks

PS do you use another forum with the same profile image?

you can put the drivers on a flash drive, then copy the drivers to the desktop of your pc, then you should only have to double click and it will install, this is how most drivers install, you may have to follow a couple of prompts.

yes, I am on a couple of other forums, :)
