During general use of Windows XP, my PC crashed and I therefore had to reboot
it. However, now it comes up with the message "Error loading operating
system" in the boot phase. I have used the Windows XP CD to get to the repair
console, (by pressing 'R' on the first screen, only I don't know what to do
    from here.

Any help as to how i can repair my PC is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

in recovery console, if you are asked for admin password just press enter

and you will have to select your windows os, which is usually 1

after that type in chkdsk c: /r and press enter, this is a lengthy process, allow to finish, percentages will appear to fluctuate, this is normal

if any errors are found and fixed, then run again until no errors are found.

post back after you have run checkdisk
