Hi all. Its been a few years since I last installed a fresh copy of XP. Got SP3 installed. I want all those great updates from windows, I know they still offer them. I used to get 100's of updates after a fresh install. Problem is the first and only update you can have is the stupid WGA tool. I have a genuine copy, all I get is to telephone a non existing number so I cant genuinely activate it hence I cant get all the updates.

Their used to be a hack where you could enter keygens etc but I cant remember how to do it.

Can anyone help me get past WGA so I can get on with building this system?

ps I added this to the registry:-

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMWPAPosReady]
    "Installed"=dword:00000001

supposed to trick XP to think its embedded for payroll systems etc so they are garaunteed security updates. Don't do jack for me.

    Thanks

if you have a legitimate copy of xp, then you can just activate online, I have installed many times and have not had to call, if you had saved your wbl file you would not have to either:

    Create the Activation Status

    Navigate to system32 folder.

Copy the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files

Reinstall XP in the normal manner

Restart the computer and use the F8 key to bring up the Advanced Boot Options

Select Minimal Safe Mode using Up and Down Arrow Keys and press Enter.

    Navigate to system32 folder.

Rename the existing wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files.

Copy the previously backed up wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files to the system32 folder.

    Reboot the computer.

    Hi thanks for your reply.
My bad, I assumed the telephone number wouldn't work based on something I read. To my surprise it worked flawlessly. Restored my faith in XP, even if I did order a copy of windows7 just before!!
