Microsoft should make Windows XP open source, so that it can live on in the open source world. The other system that I probably care about is Windows ME. It was the last of the ones based on Windows 95, and is as important a technology to have in the open source world as Windows XP. I can already imagine cheaper machines being produced in third world countries based on these technologies that can run all Windows programs!

So does no reply mean that everyone agrees?

I think it is because your tilting at windmills with this idea. About as much chance of MS putting XP source in the wild, of pigs flying..

    We can certainly protest.

We can definitely start something on social networks. And then, if there are picketers around Microsoft's campus, that will be lovely to see.

    Hi Candy,

I find your idea is really good.
I installed Windows XP on a 6 year old PC last week configured with Ramdisk and it works like a rocket.

    The OS is also slim.

It would be a shame to end it.

    My opinion . . .

Right now the Chinese Government is pressuring Microsoft to continue supporting XP. Not that it will make any difference but it's happening.

We can protest, but still one or two voices won't do any good. It would have to be a lot more protesting, and kickin' Microsoft's butt :D .
I'll stick with XP for the foreseeable future. For this old dual core, there is nothing faster.

Its NOT 'no money' in it for mICROSOFT
    Its "NOT ENOUGH" money.
They're not letting XP die a natural death, they are killing it, , , , ,

XP is a modern and very capable OS despite what they're telling you. If they opened it up, people would pick up on it and continue with XP2020 and it would be a kick in the stomach for win10.

I'm going to keep using XP for perpetuity, whether the source code is made available or not. All my programs are doing what I need them to do, and they run far more stable on XP than on any of the later versions of Windows. Newer does not always equal better...you'd be surprised how many old versions of programs I run! A lot of what I've got and use on a daily basis will work even on Win9x!

Now THAT is an early birthday present for me! It's quite fascinating to get these glimpses every now and then into classic source code.

This is actually old but it was only yesterday that they put it on github, I think before you had to request it or join some elite computer club. It's a 868kb download, about half a floppy.

868KB? Sheesh! We may NEVER have an operating system that small again! DOS has a very tough learning curve, but once you get used to it it's rock-solid.
