Also, some prefer the 'Slim' version which you see in the 1st link of the post by Lex24, because it comes without the bundled unwanted software. They used to put this out for download about 10 days later than the regular version, but that was before it was sold to Avast  I don't know how they do it now.

From the look of things, it sounds like the last CCleaner version released before the Avast sale is the best one to use, though I'm not sure off-hand what specific version that would be.

I found this ghacks web page. About 2/3 of the way down the page, you'll see that some one has posted archived links to 4 software programs from Piriform including CCleaner.

    https://www.ghacks.net/2017/07/19/avast-acquires-piriform-makers-of-ccleaner/

The 1st link given there takes you to the Piriform page with the last version of CCleaner before Avast. They announced the take over on the 19 of July 2017. This version v5.32.6129 was released on the 11th of July 2017. You can even look at the earlier versions from the 'builds' link on the same page, Hope this helps :)

It took me a while to find the portable installer of CCleaner v5.32. Here it is:

    https://web.archive.org/web/20170812163921/https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

Here are some more details about how I managed to get that page. As Google search of "ccsetup532.zip" didn't prove successful I decided to try WaybackMachine.

    Open WM home page:

    https://web.archive.org/

Enter the old Builds page URL in the search box (it contains "piriform" instead of "ccleaner" used currently):

    https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

When you select July-11-2017 you will end up downloading v5.31 although the version shown next to the download button is v5.32. After trying a few other dates in July with the same result I decided to select August 12th, which is the last date available before the release of v5.33 (on Aug-15), as shown here:

    https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/version-history

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the checksums for v5.32 anywhere, although they are available for all newer versions on Piriform forums (starting with v5.36):

Windows Defender still works on XP, but you have to manually download the Windows 7 virus definition manually every other week.
