laptop cant find wirless network

I recently installed microsoft visual c# for my programing class and in order to do so it had to install windows service pack update 3 and since then my laptop does not detect any wirless networks when i know there is one available. Its kinda old its an ibm thinkpad t41p not sure what year on the bottom it says copy write 1981 and 2003 i dont know if that helps
