I have a constant problem with an "MSN has encountered a problem and needs to close" error. I am forced to re install MSN just to make it work for a while. This happens on a weekly basis.
The module- Urlmon.dll is corrupted (error message) and I cannot find a way to fix the error.
It seems that module is part of IE8. I need to un install/re install IE8, but do not know how. Add /remove programs- XP service pack 3, is not high-lighted for removal, and IE8 is not in the add/remove menu.

    1. first ensure your system is clean:
Download, install, update and do full scan with these free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

Remove all found, reboot, and run again until scans run clean, these can be removed afterwards if you so choose.

    2. what is your current antivirus?

    3. have you gone to Microsoft updates and gotten fully patched by running a high priority scan and installing everything, and then do a custom scan and install any Rootkit updates.

    4. If you installed IE 8 before you installed sp3, then you will have to uninstall sp3 before you can uninstall IE 8.

    read the above thread.

    ------------------------------------------------

OR before doing all that, run the recovery console and do a checkdisk

chkdsk c: /r and you should run again and again until no errors are found.

you can go here to download a copy of urlmon.dll

    place in c:\Windows\system32.
