I have tried installing several different 'docx' converters/viewers, and none work.
I have no word processing sw, just the simple stuff that comes with the typical xp install.
Due to the nature of this particular doc, "$$!" I do not want to convert/view it online.
I just need to see the text, no images.

    Suggestions?

    Brief story:
My sister gave me an old computer month ago. It has Office 2003? on it, so I was able to read (& convert it to doc/rtf). I still would like to be able to view docx files on this comp, so the question stands, , , , ,

[I managed to clone the old ide drive to a newer & larger sata drive!]

You sound like a candidate for open office.
