In the Advanced tab of Regional and Language Options, there is a section called Code Page Conversion Tables (hereafter CPCT). A screenshot of all the tables can be seen here.

Several CPCTs have a check mark and are greyed out; I can't remove the check mark from these.

Is there some other way I could disable some of these selected, greyed-out CPCTs?

*.nls files are language files. All of these files are the languages that
XP supports. I.e. Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel.

    c_###.nls files.

The c stands for copepage. And nls stands for National Language Support.

Do you have more than one c_###.nls file, c_437.nls for example, in
    %SystemRoot%\System32? I have 186 .nls files.

    Does
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
    Control\Nls\CodePage
    show any c_###.nls files?

above is taken from this thread:

    http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/code-page-conversion-tables-completely-empty-t2675630.html

You could probable delete the file in system32 and the same file in regedit which would delete the entry entirely, not just uncheck it.

in step 7, says you can apply all settings to all users,

    This may ungrey the boxes.
    ==================

why do you want to uncheck the boxes??

Why I want to disable some CPCTs

    Elizabeth,

Thank you very much for your reply. The reason I'd like to disable some CPCTs is to get a program (it recovers lost Outlook Express 6 emails/databases) to work. According to the developer, the program will not work if certain CPCTs (i.e., Asian languages) are enabled.

I'll look into your suggestions. I plan on posting here again with answers to these questions of yours:

    Elizabeth23,

In C:\Windows\System32\, there are 22 c_###.nls files and 34 c_####.nls/c_#####.nls files. There is thus a total of 55 nls files.

Yes, 2) Does HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Nls\CodePage shows several c_###.nls files. But is this question helpful for me? Isn't the question better asked for someone whose problem is that they don't see CCPTs in their Regional and Language Options? I don't have that problem.

    Elizabeth,
    I tried an experiment. In C:\Windows\System32, I changed c_1258.nls (ANSI/OEM -- Vietnam) to c_1258.nlsBACKUP.

    In Registry Editor, I changed HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Nls\CodePage\1258 to 1258Backup.

I restarted the computer. But I still see the Viet Name CPCT in Control_Panel/Regional_and_Language_options.

okay, on the code page, at the bottom make sure there is a check mark in the box to apply settings to all users.

restart pc in safe mode, use the built in admin acct and see if the boxes are ungrey at this point.

    Edit:

read here maybe one of these others will work for that same issue.

    disable ctfmon.exe

    maybe that will work

    ---------------

I have been through 12 pages of the google link below:

    https://www.google.com/#q=remove+asian+languages+xp&start=120

NONE can tell why some languages are greyed out, and I have also googled for

languages greyed out and cannot uncheck in Code Page Conversion Tables

no help there either, basically you might just have to try a different program or look within the program for an alternative setting that will bypass the issue.
