How can I bypass Forgotten password

I have an old Packard Bell laptop and was trying to open windows XP to show my granddaughter how brilliant it was.

I can not remember the password to open XP. How can I change the password or get round it, please?

I am nearly 80 so please do not get to technical.

PLEASE CANCEL ABOVE I HAVE SORTED THAT ISSUE BUT NOW HAVE ANOTHER ONE. Once XP begins to open I get a message to register with Microsoft. I used this machine for 10yrs before moving to another one so it was registered with Microsoft in 2003. How can I get round this please? Neil
