please, what were the exact steps you used to reformat and did you use a genuine installation cd or a recovery cd, they are not the same thing,

a repair install or a clean install?

you need to run the recovery console, insert the cd and press R

press enter when asked for password unless you have an admin password

choose the number for windows, most just use 1, and press enter

then type in chkdsk c: /r and press enter, let finish, percentages will fluctuate, this is normal, run at least 2 or 3 times.

if you have an installation cd:

    1. insert instllation cd into drive

    2. restart and immediately start tapping F2, to get into the bios,

    3. in bios set to boot from cd rom first

    4. exit and save changes

    5. when you get the screen to press any key to boot from cd hit a key

    6. let files be loaded and you will get a welcome screen with 3 options

    7. choose R for recovery console

    8. in recovery console you are going to run checkdisk with the /r parameter, do this by typing:

    chkdsk c: /r

    9. you will have to run checkdisk at least twice until no errors are found.
