Have any of you ever heard of ReactOS ?

Just now tried it. It fails to boot. Says 'press any key', and when I do it says 'memory allocation failed', then its back to 'press any key'. So guess that's why it got benched.

I've been looking forever for that.

 

Lucky me! I take it the current version is still not usable? My definition of usable is it has to run as LiveCD, has to connect to the internet on its own, has to have a firewall that is easy to engage, and has to play videos on Youtube, Putlocker sites, etc.

 

Well... uh...

It can do some stuff, but I don't know exactly how much. I haven't played with it a lot, but I'm guessing that you could install a web browser like Firefox for your YouTube. Firewall is probably nil. Internet connection, maybe. LiveCD? It can do that, but not very well.

 

Thanks for the info. I'll probably wait a year or so, then check if it is past the Haiku and Syllable stage.

 

I was excited when I checked it out, but now they're chasing a moving target that's faster than them (compatibility with ever-evolving new Windows features) I can't think of any complaints I have with XP that ReactOS could solve. I appreciate their motivation, though. Maybe if pirated software was more dangerous, haha.

I also gave it a try, unfortunately it wont install to my Quad Core 2 PC. It freezes during installation, I was never successful installing it.

 

Sorry to hear that

For me I was only using the live DVD route and that was very limited and it hurt my eyes and I didn't find it enjoyable for me so I gave up on it.

Perhaps you've have better luck and try the live DVD and let us know what YOU think
