half life 2 wont launch, no error just tries to open then stops

    until you get your firewall working I would not try any odd programs, and I hate to say it but you might just need to do a reinstall, :)

    other user on reddit said hl2 and cs:s are cause of what it is, and i need to use older version to run it on xp, go figure

    I remember the last time I played this game I got some problems too. If you're trying to install it from repacks you may want to try other ones until there's one that will work. That game is quite low-end and should run on Windows XP.
