Genshin Impact The Anime

I just want to share with you all a gem of an anime I found that's still being aired (it's only aired 14 episodes so far out of maybe over 50 episodes total!) BUT first, a little background.

The anime is made by Tencent, which I will dub the BIGGEST COPYCAT in the world! You're the almighty Tencent company and you see MiHoYo making a splash in (mobile) gaming with Genshin Impact. So, what do you do? Naturally, you'd want a piece of the pie too! It then becomes an art of copying without actually infringing on the original work...

BACKGROUND STORY

Like Genshin Impact with the protagonist searching for his missing sister, Shrouding the Heavens's back story is a baby sister seeking to avenge the death of her older brother (who was used as a human sacrifice in a dark magic/witchcraft ritual):

The baby sister is all grown up now and cultivated herself into a powerful immortal:

After avenging the death of her older brother, the next step for her is to find the reincarnated body/person of her older brother (who so happens to be the protagonist of the anime). The task won't be easy because we're dealing with many interstellar worlds not just some Earth-like planet!

THE JOURNEY BEGINS:

The older brother has reincarnated as the school monitor (aka class president) of some college/university located in China. A mysterious coffin driven by nine-dragons (actually an interstellar subway system) arrives on Earth and takes the whole class on an interstellar journey (to other planets/solar systems where magic actually exists)!

You can see here, Tencent even COPIED the self-assembling platform (as seen in the title intro of Genshin Impact):

Anyways, so then the over-arching story becomes will the baby sister (all grown up powerful immortal now) reunite with her older brother again (reincarnated youth serving as class president of China university)?

WHO/WHERE TO WATCH IT:

Tencent has only officially released the ENG-subs of Shrouding the Heavens up to episode 7 so far (more to come) on WeTV. BUT if you fish on popular anime torrent websites, you can find the ENG FAN-SUBBED version up to episode 26 or more!

(This is the official link of the anime series)

BTW, I would ignore the intro credits. It makes the anime look like some generic (and boring) magic academy anime BUT in fact the protagonist only spent 5 few episodes at the academy out of maybe 50+ episodes and he never even attended a group lecture/class nor took an exam... before ditching the academy and venturing out in the open world (aka copied open world exploration style of Genshin Impact)!

This anime looks really good in 4K on my 720p wall projector. It's a concept called super resolution (taking a much higher res source and displaying it on a lower resolution screen):

Shrouding The Heavens anime series one of the few I deem worthy of being watched in 4K for its exceptional quality and CGI effects!

What's a Genshin Impact clone without a fruit tree scene?

These were some of the first foods I ate when I played Genshin Impact for the very first time:

They just had to including a cooking scene, using cauldron to cook human flesh (along with various herbs and spices found in the wild):

I don't understand if you like chinese animation or not. On one hand you say they're copying everyone else and sometimes you say it's great. I don't get it. Do you like it or not ??

To know the answer, you only need to realize the simple truth -- there is nothing NEW under the sun!

Tencent realized this simple truth long ago, which is why they became China's biggest entertainment company.

So, when I call someone/company out for being a COPYCAT, do you think I look at them with disdain and contempt, or complimenting them, praising them and holding them in high regard?

It's not a Genshin Impact CLONE without TREASURE BOX ITEMS (Shrouding the Heavens actually calls them Demon treasures instead of Demon artifacts):

There are some good chinese films. Like for example,
1- Wind Guardians
2- Dragons Nest Warriors Dawn
3- Throne of the Elves

Everything is similar to something else. Take for example Street Fighter II and Fatal Fury. Both 2d fighters But they have things that make them unique. Are you going to say that every time you see a blonde Elf in media it's Zelda or something ? Or a green fairy is always a tinkle bell knock off ? I think you just have to take time to appreciate that there are some good chinese movies if you watch them without constantly thinking if it reminds you of something else. Like for example you mention Genshin Impacts story of a missing sister. Stories about missing sisters, princess, wife, daughter have been done countless times in all media.

I seen Dragonnest 1. I think it's a good movie.

Anyways, sorry to burst your bubble, but Tencent is a deliberate copycat company. This is their character Han Wenqing from The King's Avatar. Nah, that's not THE Ryu from StreetFighter imitation. He's just some random martial arts expert with a red headband...

Remember, this is China's TOP #1 entertainment company. Another fairy is never worth Tencent's time. When they imitate a fairy it has to be THE Tinkerbell. When they imitate a super heroine, she has to be THE Supergirl. Another character maybe a second tier company can imitate but NOT/never Tencent! Tencent is too proud to imitate lesser characters...
