failure to add external monitor

    I am attempting to install my Dell 1226H CRT monitor to my Asus Eee PC netbook using the VGA connection on the netbook.
    It worked initially, without any special hardware changes by myself. It was "P'n'P".

    NOW:
    -monitor does not function normally.
    -I get various monitor startup conditions, but always ensuring that the monitor is powered on before Asus netbook is powered on.
    - I have not made any alterations to monitor software.
    - Have set up HP J6480 printer on network successfully; this should have no effect on the performance of this Dell CRT monitor. This netbook is also on my home network.

    Will gladly provide further details for any input on this fluxuating problem. :(:eek:
