Hi everyone. I'm having a rather annoying issue on my old Windows XP Media Center Edition desktop. I can't seem to drag and drop files between folders. I've looked up solutions, but it seems that my problem is a little more unique. You see, this is only affecting one user account (the built in Administrator account), while other people who have had this problem are experiencing it system wide. This is quite an irritating issue, so any sort of help would be excellent. Thanks in advance.

my first step would be to run checkdisk

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265/en-us
    How to perform checkdisk

if you do not have Recovery Console installed, then run from the start menu

go to start, run, type in cmd

in cmd type in chkdsk c: /r and press enter

type Y for yes and press enter

    type exit and press enter

restart pc, allow checkdisk to finish and run again

this is a lengthy process depending on the size of your harddrive, the percentages will fluctuate, this is normal, you can view report in the event viewer.

go to start>run> and type in eventvwr.msc, click on the applications directory, and in the right hand panel choose winlogon.

Alright, so checkdisk didn't work, but I figured it out. Since it only affected the Administrator account and not whole system, I figured it was a user registry issue. So I just replaced all of the HKCU registry settings with the ones from 'Default User', and the problem was fixed. Luckily I didn't really loose anything from doing this; I just ended up having to change all of my personalization settings back to the way I had them before. Thanks.
