Does XP need a third party defrag tool?

Yes, I know this is an eternal question. But I can't find any conclusive information on the internet. Opinions differ widely. I have Smart Defrag installed on my XP machine and it seems to work well. I like the Health Report and boot defrag additional features too.

But when I do a defragmentation with Smart Defrag and then do a fragmentation analysis with the built-in tool, the built-in tool shows a lot of fragmentation. Which tool is to be believed?

way back many years, I read that the built in defraggler defrags differently that third party defraggers.

I have used defraggler by pirisoft after using the inbuilt onetime, did not like it and have really liked defraggler, it is all I have used for years. :)

Thanks for your comments. I'll continue to use both tools and compare results. Yes, I also read that Defraggler is a good tool. Maybe I'll also give it a try.

Another vote for Defraggler, but I prefer MyDefrag for the once-after-windows-install = cleanup and sort by folders (System Monthly, for program loading speed), and then for quick remnants later Auslogics Disk Defrag, because it's small, fast, free, and does a good enough job.

If you enable XP's paging file, it helps to ensure that's defragged, especially if you like to keep your hard drive near-full.
Naturally, Windows installations don't get as messy when you have them on a separate partition from your data files.
