    Hi,

I have this computer, - and have re-installed Windows XP, as this is the OS DELL support with drivers.

The on board NIC is a "Broadcom 44X 10/100 integrated controller", and is to be found in the drivers collection on DELLs homepage.

I have downloaded the driver, installed it, - no luck.
I have opened device manager, and updated the driver from here, - no luck.

    ALL drivers is installed
ALL updates is downloaded and installed

    Please help

    ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-prod...ktops/dimension-e521_service manual_en-us.pdf

go here, shows a pic of the back of your pc, what color is the link integrity light?

manual is in pdf form so you will need adobe reader or foxit reader, do this from a working pc,

I have a dell dimension 3000, and the onboard nic, broke, had to order a new one from dell. I could tell it was broke, because when I plugged in my ethernet cable no light showed at all.

    Hi Elizabeth :)
we have to stop meeting like this, people might talk :)

There is no light, - but device manager know it is there......
the problem is, - the driver and the NIC can´t find each other, so to speak . . .

I have updated from Microsoft all day, - but still no luck.
At a privies occasion(the third re-install), the NIC suddenly was recognized, and installed itself.... but not this time.

It gives me the s... when things that is so simple, have to be this hard, - every now and then, I could kill Bill for brining this s... on my doorstep....
We wore happy back in the 70s...

This is not a windows thing it is a Dell thing

On the dell drivers and downloads page there is a button to have the dell scan your system,

you should do this, it will install My dell and Dell direct to your system and in order for the scan to work .net 4.0 extended will have to be installed

    http://www.dell.com/support/Diagnostics/us/en/19

above is the link for this

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17718

above is the link for .net 4.0

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24872

    .net 4 full

have to have 4.0 installed before .net 4 full

"You must be logged in as an administrator to run Dell System Detect in your browser. For Internet Explorer, click Run in the Notification bar. For Chrome, save the file and then click it in the Notification bar."

you could do this in safe mode with networking, which is the built-in administrator, as your user profile might be corrupted if it is not recognizing your admin priviledges

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151

above is how to transfer files from a corrupted user profile to another.
