Converting .DOC to .PDF, On My Computer, Instead of In the Cloud

LibreOffice exports to .pdf directly and is free. Version 5.4.7.2 (and all the previous ones) run on XP.
It takes pretty long to load though, thus I'd recommend it only for occasional or batch conversion.
The pdf conversion it offers is top notch. However when talking about retaining document formatting it's still behind. The closest I've seen is Textmaker from Softmaker. However it doesn't work on XP.

I have downloaded several of weenysofts free program downloads and have (knock on wood) no problems with them so far. :)
All the best Elizabeth, I am off. I would delete my account but there is no way. Keep up the good work you are the oracle of XP.

That sounds complicated when you can just save as pdf using Office 2007 sp3.
I remember when Office 2007 came out there was a dispute with Adobe about supporting PDF files in Office. At the time Microsoft had to provide this support with an add-on to Office 2007. That add-on is no longer available from Microsoft. However, you can still download it from third party sites. For example, 2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Save as PDF or XPS

Filename: SaveAsPDFandXPS.exe
Filesize: 933 KB (956,344 bytes)

Note that for programs like Word 2007 it could only Save as a PDF but not open this file. You had to keep the original .docx file for future editing.

Here is a screenshot of Word 2007 showing the ability to save as a PDF file.

That was true in the beginning. But if you install Office 2007 with SP3 it comes with the ability to save as PDF built in. No further add-on is needed.
