    Hello all,

Probably many users know this little registry edit.

When running Disk Cleanup XP usually slows down quite a bit when working on Compress Old Files. If you are like me and expect "instant" response to everyday XP maintenance and clean up's the registry edit below disables Compress Old Files and speeds up the Disk Cleanup process very much so.

I have done this with every install of XP and have not seen a danger or downside. Of course the "old files" are no longer compressed. These days with a hard disk being a minimum 500 Gb a few kb or files does not seem to matter.

Run Regedit and follow the "path" to Compress Old Files and simply delete that registry entry.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress old files

    Cheers,

    Mark. (Aunty Jack).
