    Hello everyone or anyone ? being an xp user I am told I am a dinosaur that should be extinct
    ? I have a small problem, I am trying to run Chkdsk on my c drive but it keeps telling me I cant because the volume is in use by another process and I cant detect what process it is referring to, I have closed everything you can in the task manager and set up a scheduled Chkdsk on restart but its the same message cant be done because the volume is in use by another process any ideas ? much thanks

    HOW TO PERFORM CHECKDISK

    if you do not have Recovery Console installed, then run from the start menu

    go to start, run, type in cmd

    in cmd type in chkdsk c: /r and press enter

    type Y for yes and press enter

    type exit and press enter

    restart pc, allow checkdisk to finish and run again

    this is a lengthy process depending on the size of your harddrive, the percentages will fluctuate, this is normal, you can view report in the event viewer.
    go to start>run> and type in eventvwr.msc, click on the applications directory, and in the right hand panel choose winlogon.
    =================

    NOTE: when it says volume is in use, it is being used by windows,

    upon restart this will start checkdisk before windows loads.

    Worked

    Thankyou it worked fine, I find it a little sad xp is now obsolete, I don't use my xp computer for the internet just for running vst and I find it's the most stable operating system, things change too fast these days,

    I like xp also, and I do connect to the internet, I have an antivirus and a malware scanner and a spyware scanner, so I keep pretty clean, if something pops up, I just wipe the drive, if I had another drive I would do an image, :)
