Yes, You both are spot on... I do still like Idiocracy, especially when he breaks line in the prison scene & says to the guard "I'm Not Supposed To Be Here..." Then the guard wallops him "Then What Are You Doin' Here Dumbass?!"... Then he turns to the other guard at the gate "Let This Dumbass Out, He's Not Supposed To Be Here!!" Who knew it'd be that easy to flee prison? HaHAH!!
I see your point, cleverscreenname... Who wants to be enslaved by something you enjoy so will begin to hate it...
Degrees aren't what they used to be... Too many unemployed 'with paper' these days even some homeless...
You all might find this revealing or entertaining, especially since it involves 'blue collar' paper types, excuse the length...
Back in 1987-88 I was on unemployment, my brother-in-law who was like 120 miles from us asked "Why don't you come work in my shop a few days a week for extra money?... You're the only mechanic I have never had to work behind, I have too much work!"..
So I did, Upon arrival I see there's a helluva lotta cars-trucks parked... I asked him are you advertising?... NOPE! Most these are from work! You see he worked during the day as a Journeyman Mechanic at Consolidated Freight all this work at home was just 'side work'...
I asked "What?!!... These come from the OTHER mechanics?!"... he said "Yup!...They are journeymen but they don't know how to work on their cars, they have just passed 'tests' & work on assembly line sort of environment"..."They are mechanical idiots"... He continued "You don't know how many times when leaving work one will yell over 'Doug, WAIT!... My car won't start! Have a look!"...
One time I went on a parts run with him & he went to CS to grab a few tools & I saw the dozens of bays, Tall-wide Snap-on boxes 20-40 grand invested in tools you'd think these guys could fix anything, I even met a mechanic who's truck I was presently working on!!
Boy, there sure were some advantages to working there... Doug had come to visit us & I had a small toolbox I was going through, It had been on a boat I had bought & most the tools were too far gone corrosion beyond thunderdome... Whilst BSing he suddenly said "WAIT!" & grabbed a crescent wrench & went into my wirewheel, "I can warrfanty this!... It's Blue Point which is old Snap-on".... I said "They won't do that They don't cover that kinda damage!"... He said "They'll cover it at CS or they will be forced to leave permanently, I never have a problem even if it's abuse one time I warranteed a 3/8 ratchet which was broken & he asked what happened, I said I just put a 6 foot pipe on it to see what it would take to break it!!... The Snap-on guy just laughed & tossed him another one"...
Doug also told me these mechanics are afraid of being fired as they have no knowledge about doing any 'real work'....
There, done...
