I am working on an hp Pavilion xt963 with windows XP. It will not boot and gives me the "file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe" message. I have tried to reload windows and load live linux cds nothing works. How do I get past this to reinstall XP or a linux system??

do you have an installation cd? not a recovery cd, and set your bios to boot to cd rom first?

I have an installation cd, but cannot get into BIOS to change boot. The first screen I get when I try to boot is the BSOD??

restart pc and immediately start tapping F2, that should get you into the bios
