ArcticFoxie's Chrome360 Questions

Okay, so I did set up the Chrome 360 loader browser, and have a coupla questions for those who are using it :

1.-How do I get extensions for it ? I keep getting messages saying that the browser is not compatible with the Chrome Store and I should use the Legacy option, but I don't see the Legacy option available on there. What can I do ? I can't (and won't) use the browser without certain add-ons.

2.-With the exception of the Google homepage, every other page has the https initials in red and crossed out, ultimately saying that the pages are not secure. How do I fix this ?

Many thanks for any help/advice on these issues.

You can't download extensions from the Chrome Web Store with 360Chrome. Anymore.

Google switched from Manifest V2 to V3 which cripples ad blocking extensions. My main browser is Librewolf and rarely use any Chrome browser for this reason.

Go to Settings->Advanced and under HTTPS/SSL untick both boxes (Check for server certificate revocation, check for intercepting risk).

Yeah, My main browser is Mypal and 360 Chrome as secondary and thirdly New Moon 28 by Roytam1 due largely for the reasons/concerns you have.

Even with those boxes unticked, you may never be able to get a green go in the https due to the fact that XP still has weaknesses when using Chrome 86 which is outdated still. Basically keep 360 for sites that Mypal doesn't work on around.

Another option since you can't use the ad blockers you need is:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts
https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts

And then head over to:
https://d3ward.github.io/toolz/adblock.html

To test your ad-blocker and manually ad what isn't to the host file. I have a pretty extensive host file on my systems.

Have fun and enjoy :)

Oh, that's terrible ! I guess I won't use the 360 then, and just stick to MyPal. At least with MyPal you can access and add-on from the extension store. Shame, because the 360 looked like a nice browser.

May I ask ? Is Librewolf a browser compatible with XP ?

Well, fun with MyPal, but no fun with 360. :-(

How is New Moon 28 ? Can we add extensions on that one ?

New Moon 28 is pretty good with a little patience accept without an extension youtube takes a while to load, otherwise, Its (like Mypal) its a FF based browser and a fork of Pale Moon browser UXP type. These browsers offered by Roytam1 are designed to work on windows XP; whereas official Pale Moon browser is not compatible with XP. So when or if you you seek support you won't find it on their forum, so either turn to us here or as MSFN for guidance going forward.

I do use it now and then and yes you can definitely add extensions.

Here are the links but you'll have to download 7-zp to use his browsers the native zip extractor from XP won't do the job because Roy zips them to 7-zip.

32-bit x86 for XP
https://7-zip.org/
https://7-zip.org/a/7z2301.exe

Here is a better thread to follow if you aren't comfortable using extensions from the Pale Moon (MCP) site.

360Chrome is still a good browser for XP, you just need to have the right extensions. Here is 360Chrome with no extensions on the link xperceniol provided:

And here is the same site with Ublock Origin, Privacy Possum, Privacy Badger and Ghostery:

I didn't make any changes to my hosts file. I have backed up my installed extensions (as I always do) and have made them available for download:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/c3nsh1ko8xgcnn6/360Chrome_Extensions.zip/file

Unzip, open the extensions page in 360Chrome then drag the .CRX file into the browser. You will be asked to confirm. Profit.

I have included other extensions I like for your amusement.

Clear Browsing Data - clear ALL browser data and close all tabs with the click of a button (make sure you select which data in options).

Tab Activate - One thing I have always DETESTED about Chrome browsers is the way new tabs open in the background. This extension opens them in the foreground.

User Agent Switcher - allows you to spoof your user agent. This will not make 360Chrome magically work with websites such as Chrome Web Store (I tried) but it can be helpful for some sites.

360Chrome is based on Manifest V2 so adblockers are not crippled. It will probably work with more websites than MyPal 68 or any other XP browser.

See ... now the fun is back :D You now have 3 good browsers to chose from for your XP installation and extensions thanks very much to Clippy offering us his extensions to download. Why not try all 3 browsers and test them and find something to enjoy about each one. As Clippy has often said, there is not a one browser solution for XP. You'll need 360 for Yelp and you can't get results in Mypal68 Or New Moon 28.

Let us know how you make out - happy testing and browsing ;)

PS: Once you have your extension going and/or you decide to use the host file to block ad and tracking domains, you should be able to reach 93% protected and you should get the green light go in the address bar. In my 360 Chrome:

ArcticFoxie/NotHereToPlayGames -- 360Chrome v13.5.1030 Redux

with no extensions and the use of the host file (which I've modified manually also) this is my result. Basically when you run the test and scroll down everything you want blocked should be in green with a green check mark, as a red "X" means it is not blocked. But of course, only using the host file will not handle tracking scripts - you'll need an extension for that.

You should be able to (at least) reach 93% on New Moon 28, as well via the same method.

Okay, I followed your instructions and I got all of those extensions working now in my 360 browser ! Thank you so much, old sock ! May I ask ? Do you happen to have other extensions available like Avast Online Security or similiar ? Any video downloaders and the like ? LOL

Take your time and enjoy the experience (XP ... hehe)

Yeah, we do work hard to keep this great OS going - I suspect its a passion for us. And who said we can't run XP in 2024.

I don't have any of those extensions but you could use the link 360Chrome maintainer ArcticFoxie posted at MSFN.

https://www.crx4chrome.com/

I did a search for Avast Online and got this result:

https://www.crx4chrome.com/crx/1233/

I strongly recommend you keep any CRX files you download in a safe place as online repositories have a tendency to disappear from the internet.

Thank you again ! Yes, that is the Avast Security extension I was referring to. Got it all installed now in 360.
I'll still be perusing the other extensions, but that page looks very promising to find more things for the 360.
Also, how does one increase or decrease the page resolution for certain websites that are either too big or too small ? I don't see an option for that in settings or preferences ?

Is there a way to install the H264ify codec in 360 chrome?
Can't do it from google store anymore and no direct link on the authors github site other than a link to google store.
Need to fix youtube video stuttering on 360 chrome.

Easy to add H264ify to mypal 68 but 360 chrome is a headache.

I really wish Arctic Foxie were here on the forum again to answer some of these question. For the record, youtube stutters for me on the latest version:

ArcticFoxie/NotHereToPlayGames -- 360Chrome v13.5.1030 Redux

Wheres youtube didn't stutter on the ancient V11 but I abandoned that version quite some time ago.

Perhaps somebody else can better answer your question.

I've read that video stuttering has been a chrome issue for years and not just with 360 chrome.I'm using 360 chrome 13.5.1030 rebuild 7 ungoogled.
Previous 2036 version also stuttered.
It's the only browser I've used that does it.
If I want the hear a flawless youtube video,I use mypal 68.
